This week we are studying World War I from the American perspective. This Friday we will be having an open notebook test to end the marking period. The United States was impacted economically by an increase in productions at its factories. The increase in production was because of the supplies we sent to our allies and to our own troops to run the war.
The US was also impacted socially. Women entered the workforce in record numbers to replace the men who were off at war. While at the factories the women learned that they could work as well as men and gained a new sense of independence.
Blacks or African Americans moved in the Great Migration form the South to the north to find work in the factories as well. This improved many of their living standards.
New Technologies made war more deadly like the machine gun, and mustard gas.
Government took a greater role in peoples lives as the US organized for war. New government agencies were formed. The government also began to persuade US citizens to support the war effort through the use of PROPAGANDA. We have looked at many of these posters in class.
At the end of the war President Wilson Proposed 14 point and the creation of The League of Nations. However, the US people and the Congress would not sign on and the United States did not become a part of the league. We turned back towards ourselves and a policy of isolation.
